Neon Notations: Smarter Legal Solutions

Neon Notations streamline legal services by integrating structured data collection, dynamic document generation, and automated workflows. This approach enhances efficiency and accuracy, allowing legal professionals to focus on substantive matters rather than administrative tasks.

Components of a Neon Notation

A Neon Notation consists of three core elements that work together to create a seamless legal process:

  • Documents – Predefined templates that dynamically incorporate client-specific information. Every notation is represented by one document.
  • Questionnaires – Smart forms designed to efficiently collect and organize data.
  • Workflows – Automated actions triggered based on responses to ensure continuous progress.

These components function cohesively to reduce redundancy, improve accuracy, and enhance accessibility.

Process Overview

A Neon Notation structures legal workflows by guiding both clients and legal staff through a structured information-gathering process. Clients begin by completing a questionnaire, known as a Flow, where they provide essential details relevant to their legal matter. As clients enter responses, their answers populate the legal workflow, allowing for seamless data capture and organization.

Once the initial Flow is completed, legal staff engage with an additional set of questions, referred to as an Alignment. The Alignment serves as a review and verification process, enabling legal professionals to refine and validate responses before finalizing any legal work product. At any stage, whether in the Flow or Alignment, the act of answering a question may trigger workflows that automate necessary actions, ensuring that the process continues without unnecessary delays.

Ultimately, all collected answers—whether provided by the client in the Flow or by legal staff in the Alignment—are used to generate and populate the final legal document associated with the Notation. This structured approach ensures that information is consistently applied, reducing errors and streamlining document preparation.

Flows & Alignments: Two Types of Questionnaires

Flows – Client-Filled Questionnaires

Flows allow clients to enter information directly, streamlining the intake process and expediting document preparation.

Alignments – Staff-Filled Questionnaires

Alignments enable legal professionals to review, verify, and refine client responses before finalizing documents, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.

Document Formats: PDFs and Markdown

A Neon Notation document can be generated in either PDF or Markdown format, depending on its configuration.

PDFs

For PDF documents, the document_url specifies the file location, while document_mappings defines overlay positions. The document_mappings parameter consists of a list of rectangles, each specifying the page number and the x, y coordinates in pixels where responses from the Flow or Alignment are placed within the document.

Markdown

For Markdown documents, the document_text field contains the document’s content, formatted using Liquid templating to dynamically populate responses from the Flow or Alignment.

Impact of Neon Notations

Neon Notations enhance legal service delivery by integrating documents, workflows, and questionnaires into a unified system. It is this combination that drives significant gains in productivity and efficiency. By structuring legal processes in a way that seamlessly connects data collection, automation, and document generation, Neon Notations reduce redundancies and eliminate unnecessary manual work.

Terms to keep in mind

Always include an end date for any agreement unless it is a published notation.

When possible, choose Nevada and Washoe County as the choice of jurisdiction.

For everything that is not a published notation, ensure the staff_review question is part of the flow. This is our answer to human-in-the-loop, or lawyer-in-the-loop for legal advice.
