Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 29, 2026
We believe privacy is a fundamental human right. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and to be plain about the rest.
Who We Are
This policy covers two organizations that operate through this site:
- Neon Law Foundation — a 501(c)(3) non-profit that runs our access-to-justice programs and the open-source Navigator project.
- Neon Law — the brand under which Shook Law PLLC, a Nevada professional limited liability company, renders legal services.
Where it matters which organization holds your information, we say so below. The Foundation handles program, donor, and education data; Shook Law PLLC handles client and legal-matter data. Both apply the practices described here.
Information We Collect
- Information you give us: your name, email address, phone number, and the details you share when you contact us, request legal assistance, make a donation, or sign up for one of our programs.
- Information created when you use the site: account and sign-in information (we use Google sign-in), basic security and session cookies, and limited server log data such as your IP address.
- Your legal matter: the documents and communications you send us, which may be stored in our secured Google shared drive.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to provide and improve our services, process donations, communicate with you about our programs, and fulfill our mission of expanding access to justice. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
AI Assistance (AIDA)
When you use our AIDA assistant, your messages may be processed by a third-party AI provider (currently Google Vertex AI) solely to generate a response. We do not use your conversations to train third-party models. If you would rather not use AIDA, you can contact us directly instead.
Who We Share Information With
We rely on trusted service providers, under contract, to operate our services: Google (sign-in, document storage, and AI processing), our cloud database and storage provider, and our email provider. We disclose information to law enforcement only when legally required, and we will tell you when we are permitted to do so.
Your Privacy Rights
You always have the right to delete. You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to opt out of any sale of personal information (we do not sell it). To exercise these rights, email support@neonlaw.org. We honor these rights for everyone, regardless of where you live — consistent with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Nevada law (NRS 603A).
Attorney-Client Privilege
Once an attorney-client relationship is formed, your communications with our attorneys are protected by attorney-client privilege to the fullest extent permitted by law, and we do not disclose confidential client communications without your consent. Browsing this site or sending a general inquiry does not by itself create that relationship.
Donor Privacy
We respect the privacy of our donors. We do not share, sell, rent, or trade donor information with other organizations. Donor records are kept confidential and are used only to administer donations and keep donors informed about our work.
Data Security and Retention
We make commercially reasonable efforts to safeguard your information, and we keep it only as long as needed for the purposes described above or as the law requires. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Children's Privacy
Our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
