When a dispute turns on how software actually works — who could access which data, what a log really shows, whether the code does what a contract said it would — you need someone who can read the system and explain it plainly to a judge or a jury. Neon Law Nerd is the firm's expert-witness practice, the technical sibling of Litigation: where the litigators try the case, the nerd proves the facts.

Try Nerd when the case depends on what the system really did. A log is not self-explanatory. Source code does not speak plain English. Someone has to read the machine, test the claim, and explain the result without dressing it up.

We examine software and data and give an independent technical opinion in a written report and, when the matter calls for it, testimony by deposition or at trial. We bill a flat $1,337 per deliverable against a written engagement letter — one written report, one deposition (preparation and a single session), or one appearance to testify at trial or hearing. The fee is for the work that produces the deliverable, never for the testimony itself, and it is never contingent on the conclusion or the outcome. A second session, a supplemental report, or a separate proceeding is a separate deliverable under its own engagement.

Our expert work focuses on software and the data it touches:

  • Source-code review and software-functionality questions
  • Data-access, authorization, and data-breach analysis
  • Forensic examination of systems, logs, and digital evidence
  • Trade-secret and source-code-misappropriation matters

We tell you candidly what the evidence and our analysis actually show — including when the facts do not support the position you hoped for. An expert offered by one side still owes the court candor, and a credible, independent opinion is what holds up under cross-examination. We do not guarantee any particular finding or result.

We take only matters within our technical lane. When a question is outside our expertise, conflicted, or beyond our capacity, we tell you plainly and point you to another expert we trust — connecting you with the right person is part of the job, never a way of turning you away. The Firm neither pays nor accepts a referral fee.

If the case turns on the code, email support@neonlaw.com with a short description of the dispute and the technical question at its center. We respond within one business day.
